A raw, nostalgic opera night.
The third subscription concert of the season presents an evening of late Romantic and Russian program music. The programme opens with Modest Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain (orchestrated by Rimsky-Korsakov), followed by Robert Schumann's Concert Piece for Four French Horns and Orchestra, Op. 86 featuring soloists Zuzana Rzounková, Martin Sokol, Jan Vobořil, and Jan Vobořil Jr. The performance concludes with Richard Strauss' monumental symphonic poem A Hero's Life (Ein Heldenleben), Op. 40, performed by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Steven Mercurio.
