Mamady Kouyate's MANDINGO AMBASSADORS
An underground, nostalgic jazz night.
Mamady Kouyate is one of Guinea's better known guitarist. The heir to a long line of griots, he was first taught by his father who was one of the first guinean griots to introduce the guitar. After touring for years with Guinea's most famous export, Bembeya Jazz, Kouyate relocated to the US where he founded the Mandingo Ambassadors. The group serves as a vehicle for his own music, utilizing the classic 1970s sound of Guinea's legendary Sylliphone recordings to create dazzling vocal and guitar patterns over a tight rhythm section.
