Berlin Ceilidh Band
A danceable, nostalgic folk night.
Viktoriastraße 10-18, 12105 Berlin-Bezirk Tempelhof-Schöneberg
A Ceilidh is a traditional social gathering with roots in Scotland and Ireland, where storytelling, poetry, and singing were once the focus. Over time, music and dancing have become the heart of these events. Attendees can enjoy lively jigs, reels, polkas, and various set dances like square and circle dances, performed to live music featuring instruments such as melodeons, fiddles, and whistles. The Berlin Ceilidh Band was formed in late 2009 and has been hosting regular E-Ceilidh nights in Berlin ever since. Their modern take on the tradition combines energetic dance sets with a mix of traditional and contemporary instruments, including electric bass and drums. The group consists of roughly eight regular musicians from England, the USA, and Germany, often joined by special guests. The dances are high-energy yet easy to learn, making them accessible even to those with no prior dance experience.
