The Pegwells
A nostalgic, underground folk night.
The Pegwells are a band of folk playing the old time tunes of the Appalachian mountains and the broader south. The band was formed in 2021 by Bianca Wilson and Rebekah Bouche as a way to claim space in a scene that marginalises non-male and non-white people. They aim to expand ingrained ideas of who this music belongs to and why; highlighting and dismantling the erasure of black contribution to traditional banjo and fiddle music. Their mission is to embody a fuller history that tracks the heritage of these tunes back to West Africa as well as the British Isles, re-establishing the music as a site of radical inclusion.
