Monte, Mar y Río
An underground cumbia night.
Monte, Mar y Río offers a sonic journey through Colombia’s vast geography—from the powerful drive of Caribbean tamboras, bullerengue, and cumbia to the spiritual depth of Pacific currulao, the poetic storytelling of the Plains' joropo and pasaje, the playful spirit of carranga, and the elegance of Andean bambuco. Moving beyond a static interpretation, the ensemble reimagines these traditions through a distinct New York sound, fusing global rhythms with an experimental edge. The project is fueled by the diverse artistic backgrounds of Lina Silva, Sebastián Cruz, Juan Sebastián Monsalve, and Derian Pallares, creating a unique alchemy where ancestral roots converge with the avant-garde and the global sounds of today’s music scene.
