JELISA heeft zich de afgelopen jaren opgewerkt tot een van de meest opvallende stemmen in de Nederlandse soul. Haar muziek beweegt zich langs klassieke soul en funk, indie en R&B, met hier en daar de randen van rock, maar altijd persoonlijk en altijd direct. Met radioplays op BBC Radio, NPO Soul & Jazz en Sublime en optredens in Paradiso, Melkweg en TivoliVredenburg heeft ze inmiddels een solide reputatie opgebouwd. Na haar EP’s Season of Vulnerability en Do you feel the same? bracht JELISA met Melancholia haar meest ambitieuze werk uit. Voor deze EP reisde ze af naar Tokyo, waar ze opnames maakte in Freedom Studio Tokyo samen met Japanse artiesten. Het resultaat is een plaat die haar geluid verder opentrekt: soul en jazz, indie en R&B, in één adem.
