Fiesta Cumbiera
A danceable, high-energy cumbia night.
Welcome the summer heat with a Cumbia bath as Fiesta Cumbiera returns to Marula Café. The event features a live performance by La Tía Borracha and a DJ set by Lady Avocado for a night of Latin dance and revelry. La Tía Borracha is a musical project that brings to the stage cover versions of all-time cumbia classics, while also transforming pop and rock hits into colorful, humorous cumbia renditions. Their repertoire is meticulously revised with a critical, current, and feminist perspective, rewriting lyrics to break away from oppressive messages and turn them into festive, inclusive, and carefree chants. The group delivers an energetic live show that blends movement and empowerment, creating an explosive spectacle where music becomes a spark of freedom. Opening the night, Lady Avocado takes to the decks. Originally from Barranquilla, Colombia, she is influenced by the "picotera" (soundsystem) culture of her hometown. Her sets travel through intense Caribbean and Afro-Colombian sounds like zouk, champeta, and Latin, reaching into hypnotic African dance styles such as soukous, highlife, and benga.
