A nostalgic, raw big band night.
The Mingus Big Band exclusively performs the music of the renowned American composer, bassist, and activist Charles Mingus. Established by Sue Mingus, this 14-piece ensemble showcases large-band arrangements that Mingus envisioned but could not always realize. Their performances emphasize deep exploration and creative evolution, serving as a platform for individual artistic expression in the spirit of Mingus's original Jazz Workshop. Drawing from a talented roster of New York City's top musicians, the group is celebrated for its spontaneous and creative energy, boasting multiple GRAMMY nominations and a win for Live at Jazz Standard. Their legacy continues through the long-standing Mingus Mondays residency at The Pocket.
