Mannequin Pussy's music feels like a resilient and galvanizing shout that demands to be heard. Across four albums, the Philadelphia rock band has made cathartic tunes about despairing times. Their latest LP, I Got Heaven, is their most fully realized release yet, moving abruptly from searing punk to inviting pop while exploring desire, self-reliance, and living in an unfeeling world. Following the 2019 release of their third album Patience and the 2021 EP Perfect, the band shifted their writing formula, collaborating closely with producer John Congleton in Los Angeles. The resulting tracks balance aggressive, hard-hitting instrumentation with soaring melodies, tackling complex themes ranging from modern-day hypocrisy to personal sacrifice and resilience.
