At nineteen years of age, Skylar Tang has established herself as a prominent young voice in the international jazz community. She has shared stages with notable artists like Sean Jones, DeeDee Bridgewater, and Rufus Reid, and contributed to Joshua Redman’s album Words Fall Short. Her career includes performances at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, SFJAZZ, and the Kennedy Center. As a composer and bandleader, Tang focuses on capturing presence and creating a sense of community through her music. Her quartet delivers an elegant and welcoming atmosphere that aims to affirm the listener. Tang previously won the 2022 Essentially Ellington’s Student Composition/Arranging Contest, leading the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in a performance of her original work.
