Norwegian accordionist Frode Haltli presents Avant Folk 5tet, an exploration at the frontiers of folk music. Combining jazz, contemporary, and experimental elements, the group creates an electric sonic atmosphere described as a midnight sun of sound. The ensemble develops motifs by ear, leading to powerful musical climaxes that shift the epicenter of jazz toward the North Cape. Lineup includes Frode Haltli on accordion, Erlend Apneseth and Hans P. Kjorstad on violins, Rolf-Erik Nystrøm on saxophone, and Juhani Silvola on guitar and electronics.
