Pictures at an Exhibition
An open-air orchestral night.
Mussorgsky’s evocative musical gallery visit comes to life through Ravel’s vibrant orchestration. Originally composed as a tribute to the painter Victor Hartmann, this masterpiece leads listeners from tranquil pastoral scenes to the grandiose Great Gate of Kyiv. The program features the Los Angeles Philharmonic joined by cellist Zlatomir Fung in his Bowl debut, performing Tchaikovsky's graceful Variations on a Rococo Theme. Austrian-Armenian conductor Emmanuel Tjeknavorian also makes his debut, opening the evening with the dramatic Gayane suite by Khachaturian, a powerful story of resilience in the Armenian countryside.
