The season begins with a flourish as The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra of New York visits for two concerts, led by music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. This first evening is entirely dedicated to the works of Richard Strauss. Since his debut with the MET Orchestra in 2009, Yannick Nézet-Séguin has performed with them every season, becoming the company's third music director in 2018. This programme, featuring soprano Elza van den Heever, highlights their deep connection to the operatic world. Alongside the symphonic poem Ein Heldenleben (A Hero's Life), they perform the composer's suite from Der Rosenkavalier and the intense final scene from Salome.
