Asian PRIDE @ SEXYLAND aims to celebrate the vibrant and diverse cultures and (his/her/they)stories of the Queer Asian diaspora residing in the Netherlands and Europe through a night of music, food, art, and community. This event aligns with SEXYLAND’s mission of providing a stage for experimental and innovative ideas and enriches Amsterdam’s cultural life by highlighting diverse stories and giving voice and a stage to artists and community groups from a minority. The event will start by featuring a ‘faire’ showcasing local Queer Asian community groups and artists, with space for coming together as a community. The first part of the event will focus on building and strengthening community within a diverse set of people. This will also involve sharing food, and connecting with one another through stalls by different groups, and by the showcasing of Queer Asian art looking at the construction of identities within the diaspora. Local and international queer Asian artists will play sets, providing a backdrop of music from 7-10pm. Afterward, the club night will open up. This will feature local Dutch Asian DJs, as well as international invitees from the Queer Asian Diaspora. We are already in contact with artists who are excited to be part of this community event. This event will showcase talents within the Queer and Asian diaspora in the Netherlands, a group that is often underrepresented. Through this event, we hope to strengthen a community, build a dialogue and promote the visibility and (his)stories of the Queer and Asian diaspora. The event targets primarily the Queer Asian community within the month of Pride, as part of Asian Pride’s activities. It is also aimed at the Asian community and the LGBTQ+ community, allies, and those interested in supporting Queer Asian cultures and music. The event, as a community event, aims to be inclusive and representative of a diverse range of identities and (his/her/they)stories.
