the sexual content of this film is, i'm sure, as salacious as the headlines say it is—but i was drawn most deeply into the confrontation it stages between generations: the curt, vaping zoomer whose libido dovetails at an angle from a list of signifiers ("faggots," "boys," "perverts")...and then the glassy-eyed boomer, for whom sex is both golden ideal and iron fatei'll be moderating the q&a after this screening at the ifc, friday may 8th at 7:20pm
A truly audacious film.I have not been this shocked in a cinema in a long time, it felt awesome. It is very well-directed, the script is invisible, the actors are incredible, it is so captivating and it was panned by so many festivals and distributors. I heard one moviegoer say “well yeah, who wants THAT headache?” A great movie is a great movie, forget the subject matter. It’s like tom noonan’s “what happened was” but about a truly shocking couple. And the filmmakers follow through, it does not shy away from the subject and it’s horrifying at times. When you meet a monster, you never meet a monster you meet a very nice man and those people continually come out in banal and casual ways. The film seems to be about loneliness and how people respond to it. It’s also a single location film and you don’t care at all because it’s constantly so captivating, like twelve angry men or Krisha. It’s shocking, and people will miss the forest for the trees, but it’s very well written and shot and very well directed and should get its due flowers. So here are some from me.🌹🌸🌺🌷🌻🌼
