Movie #2 in the IMAX Documentary Showcase running weekly through the end of April. This one chronicles the building, launch, and data collection of the Webb telescope, designed to capture images of distant galaxies and unlock the secrets of the universe. Since the subject matter here is complex astrophysics, they’re caught in a trap between presenting it in all its mind-boggling complexity, or dumbing it down to a point where it’s superficial and obvious. They opted for the latter. “Images like this will help further scientists’ understanding of how stars are formed” is not an especially interesting thing to hear, and there was a lot of that here.Still, some of the images were breathtaking in IMAX, the discussion of the search for life-supporting exoplanets was fascinating, and Michelle Williams made for a good narrator. A step down from last week’s Blue Angels 3D, but still easily worth the 40 minute investment.Next week’s movie: Born To Be Wild 3D.Included in list:2023 Movies Ranked
