2 cinemas are screening films in Drama right now. Tap any cinema for its showtimes by day on Mood.
Drama has two cinemas, both owned by the municipality: the Olympia, the indoor cinema in the centre, and the Alexandros open-air cinema in the Municipal Garden. This page shows what's on today and when, by film and by venue.
The Olympia is on Eleftheriou Venizelou Street in the town centre and is Drama's first cinema hall. It is housed in a former tobacco warehouse and has been showing films since the 1920s: it opened as the «Megas», ran briefly as the «Ellas» in 1945 and has been the Olympia since 1952. The Municipality of Drama bought it in 1992. Its single hall keeps the feel of a classic provincial cinema with updated picture and sound, and the municipality has included it in a Recovery Fund upgrade project covering sound, lighting, air conditioning and new seats. It runs all year with the main Greek and international releases, commercial films and children's animation. With one screen, the films share the evening's slots, so check the time of each showing.
The Alexandros open-air cinema is municipal and sits inside the Municipal Garden, behind the KTEL bus station. Its history has gaps. In 2013 the volunteer association «Symmeteho» found it so neglected that plants had grown over even the screen. The group cleared it with sponsorship and ran it in 2013 and 2014, after which the Alexandros closed again. In the summer of 2020 the municipality cleared it with its own crews and volunteers and reopened it with free Saturday screenings from the festival: award-winning short films from past editions and films for all ages. That August it also showed commercial films on the other nights, with the children's film in the first slot. It does not have a regular programme every summer, so check Mood to see whether it is running.
Drama's cinema year peaks in September with the Drama International Short Film Festival, which for one week fills the Olympia, the Alexandros and other venues around town with screenings. In summer, when the Alexandros is running, its screenings also work as a warm-up for the festival. The rest of the year, the town's programme is the Olympia's programme. Mood gathers the full Drama programme, with the time and venue of every showing.
Two, both owned by the Municipality of Drama: the Olympia, an indoor cinema on Eleftheriou Venizelou open all year, and the Alexandros open-air cinema in the Municipal Garden. What's showing today is in Mood's programme.
