A nostalgic, homegrown classical night.
Herbert-von-Karajan-Straße 1, Berlin
This season, our “Berlin Philharmonic Ensembles” series is dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven, as the 200th anniversary of his death approaches in 2027. The program highlights his “Great Fugue,” a work of immense modernity and expressive power that famously challenged his contemporaries. In dialogue with this, the ensemble performs Felix Mendelssohn’s Opus 13, composed at age 18, which frequently references Beethoven’s Fugue. To open the evening, Beethoven’s lighter side is showcased through his Serenade in D major and the unique duet featuring two obligatory pairs of spectacles. This performance features chamber music configurations of the Berliner Philharmoniker members.
