An underground classical night.
Kirill Karabits conducts the world premiere of Jasdeep Singh Degun's new Sitar Concerto alongside Sergei Prokofiev's final symphony. Degun's second concerto for the sitar continues his groundbreaking work redefining the boundaries of Indian classical music and Western symphonic tradition. As a Barbican artist-in-residence, Degun finds a bold new language for the sitar that speaks across continents and centuries. The programme concludes with the poignant simplicity of Prokofiev's Symphony No. 7, originally composed for the Soviet Children's Radio Division.
