A rapturously beautiful slow burning film. The final scene, where the motorcycles glide along roads, fading into memory with the distant echo of a roar is probably the best sequence of filmmaking at this year’s Locarno Film Festival.

In 2012 werd de 18-jarige Lucas Diomar op brute wijze vermoord tijdens een verjaardagsfeestje in Cayenne (Frans-Guyana). Tien jaar later keerde Yannick, zijn beste vriend, die avond ernstig gewond, voor het eerst terug naar Guyana om een herdenking ter ere van Lucas bij te wonen. Tegelijkertijd verlaat Arisnel, de moordenaar, de gevangenis. Rond één sterfgeval werden drie families vernietigd. Drie moeders verloren hun zonen. Kouté vwa is een eigentijdse tragedie, waarin elk van de personages zijn stem laat horen en een onmogelijke rouw probeert te verhelpen.
