A queer, underground r&b artist.
‘Break Me’ is the debut single from 36birds, the rising Zurich-via-DRC artist on a mission to make dance music Black and queer again. When a 15-year-old 36birds first started recording music, he found the Swiss hip-hop and R&B community to be male-dominated and overtly masculine, and he felt as though he didn’t fit in. Even though he identifies as queer, he was made to sing about girls when he first started working with musicians, while crafting his own material on the side that represented his true self. Fusing melancholic R&B with blistering rave sonics, 36birds’ music is like a narcotic blend of LSDXOXO and serpentwithfeet. Early musical loves like Frank Ocean, Britney and The Weeknd also factor into his sound, as well as the hardcore dance continuum, hard techno and ‘90s trance. ‘Break Me’ has been remixed by Anastasia Kristensen, Air Max 97, and Rui Ho, all artists who 36birds handpicked for their idiosyncratic takes on electronic music.
36birds creates a unique blend of melancholic R&B and blistering rave sonics, drawing inspiration from artists like Frank Ocean and Britney Spears, as well as hard techno and '90s trance.
