Jeffrey Gimble

Jeffrey grew up in a jazz-filled home in Houston, TX in the 60s and 70s. Whether accompanying his bandleader dad Maynard to gigs, spending endless hours listening to his family’s vast jazz record collection, or just playing piano and singing, his musical destiny was fixed at an early age. It was then that he discovered the Great American Songbook as well as the works of the American Musical Theatre (Sondheim in particular). After spending 20 years in New York City as an actor working in plays, musicals and films, he moved to Los Angeles saying “I’m probably the only professional actor to move to L.A., stop acting and start singing jazz instead.” His first recording “Beyond Up High” (2013) produced by Mark Winkler with piano and arrangements by Tamir Hendelman was called “An auspicious debut jazz album” (Seattle Post-Intelligencer), “One of the best for 2013” (Critical Jazz) and “A new male voice terrific in style, swing and swagger” (All About Jazz). Mr. Gimble gigs primarily in the Southern California area, with performances at Catalina Jazz Club, The G Spot, Vitello’s, The Merc in Temecula, Urban Press Winery, the West Hollywood Summer Sounds series, the Gardenia Supper Club and the LAX Radisson’s “Jazz at the RAD” series, to name a few. His mentor is vocalist/educator Kate McGarry. He keeps singing because “it’s the absolute quickest way I know to get and give joy in this life.”
