Scott Lavene
A nostalgic spoken word artist.
Scott Lavene, is as English as pork pies and pasties, dunked biscuits in Yorkshire tea. Last years album Disneyland in Dagenham was full of Essex and East End poetry, and classic English post punk. Following extensive touring of that album including many sold out shows including The Lexington and The Lower third in London, he’s back this year with another album, Cars, Buses, Bedsits and Shops, an album bursting with more dark humour, snapshots of squalor and cheek and his unique love songs. The album is fit to burst with colour, a slight change in the wacky production of old, this album is polished like a classic 70’s American singer songwriter album, an ode to Wings, to yacht rock and as if Wilco and Bruce Springsteen’s baby was raised in Basildon. "Part Ray Davies, part Billy Bragg, all Scott Lavene," - Louder Than War "Thoughtful, witty songs about life from Essex bandsman," - UNCUT "Once upon a time, he’d have found a home on Stiff Records, alongside Ian Dury and Wreckless Eric, even Jona Lewie, and he’d have become a national treasure: he really is a very good writer, with an eye for the telling detail," - Spectator "A master storyteller." Tom Robinson, BBC 6Music. “A delicate balladeer with Robyn Hitchcock’s surrealist flair” - MOJO “Sounds like an updated version of something that Stiff records would have released in the 70’s.” - Steve Lamacq “Think Baxter Dury’s warped kid brother.” - The Times
