The Lolly Bombs

Michael Ivins, founding member and bassist of The Flaming Lips, jumped ship to set sail on his own 'Boat of Love' with First Mate Jules Kean soon after they fell in love in 2020. They wrote a song about how they met and Jules wanted to turn it into a 45 they could play on the record player. Michael had bigger ideas. With Michael’s background of playing with the Flaming Lips for 38 years and assistant engineering with Dave Fridmann, he decided to share with Jules what he had learned about music in this lifetime. They began recording music in their small LA apartment. To create a fuller sound, they played multiple instruments and added fun effects and distortion with the help of Pro Tools and Ivins’ expertise. In 2023, they released 6 singles as The Lolly Bombs which you can find on most streaming services including Bandcamp. Ivins and Kean are in the final stages of completing their debut album for a 2024 release. The Lolly Bombs sound encompasses a wide range of musical influences blended and refracted through their own unique vision to make movies through sound- a lolly pop for your soul. Jules writes a blog about her unexpected musical journey on their website and dreams up fun melodies while Michael hones in on arrangements and the technical side of what it means to make music and share their love of life in the songwriting team of Ivins/Kean. Nothing will stop The Lolly Bombs from sharing their “fuzzy sunshine music” with the world.
