Born in Paris and based between Europe and the United States, Alex Terrier is a saxophonist, composer, and educator known for his warm tone, inventive compositions, and deep connection to the jazz tradition. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he quickly established himself on the New York scene, collaborating with a wide range of artists like Kenny Barron, the Mingus Big Band, Johnathan Blake. Terrier’s approach combines the discipline of the bebop lineage with a forward-looking curiosity, exploring modern harmonic and rhythmic concepts without losing the essence of swing. His recordings and international performances have earned him a reputation as both a thoughtful improviser and a passionate communicator. Beyond performing, Terrier is a dedicated jazz educator. Through his platform JazzVideoLessons.net, he shares his experience with thousands of students worldwide, helping musicians develop a deeper understanding of improvisation and the jazz language. With On Second Thoughts, Terrier captures what he values most in music: authenticity, risk, and connection. Recorded in one afternoon in Paris with pianist Brandon McCune, bassist Steve Wood, and drummer Jay Sawyer, the album is a living document of spontaneous creation — honest, joyful, and deeply musical.
