After establishing himself in the late '90s and early 2000s with indie rock bands like Parazit and Machnick, Swiss producer Gregory Poncet began to explore the realms of minimal house and electronic music through his duo Digitaline and his solo project Gregorythme. However, Gregory Poncet felt a pull toward a different musical direction, leading to the birth of his new project, Algebra, where he aims to explore the captivating world of pop. Algebra's debut album, Aphantasia, released in early 2022, marked a pivotal shift in his musical journey. The album is characterized by its seamless fusion of simplicity and complexity. It showcases Poncet’s unique approach to DIY songwriting, weaving together rich sound textures, lo-fi aesthetics, and electro-synth pop elements. Following Aphantasia, Algebra’s newest release, Hyperstitious, ventures even further into the realms of dreamy pop and après-folk. This 8-track album invites listeners on an immersive sonic journey, where acoustic and electronic elements blend harmoniously. Drawing inspiration from retro-futurism, Gregory Poncet crafts intricate soundscapes filled with fragility and charm. These new songs showcase his ability to merge contrasting elements, creating a rich auditory experience that resonates with both new audiences and those familiar with his evolving artistry.
