American Sigh

American Sigh is an indie rock band from Los Angeles, CA led by Theo Matz. Their songs wrap meditations on a world in flux in a beguiling blend of up-tempo indie folk, second-wave emo guitar squall, and articulate, chiming melody. Matz is a singer capable of selling lyrics that few others would think of as hooks—no one has ever sung “when there is justice, there will be peace” so sweetly—and though he keeps up his affable good humor throughout, he’s never apathetic. On their third album One Long Year, Matz sets out less to satirize this distinctly un-satirizable moment than to show how it feels to live in a period when the question of “how to live” is harder to answer than ever.
