Bird Streets

Brooklyn artist John Brodeur adopted the Bird Streets name with the release of a Jason Falkner-produced 2018 LP. Bird Streets is a refreshing blast of classic-yet-modern melodic rock that received accolades from PopMatters (“a rock solid power-pop gem”) and NPR Music, which named Brodeur a Slingshot Artist alongside then-emerging talents like Phoebe Bridgers and The Beths. For 2002's Lagoon, Brodeur expanded on the project’s collaborative foundation, enlisting contributions by Patrick Sansone (Wilco), Michael Lockwood (Susanna Hoffs), Ed Harcourt, Aimee Mann, John Davis, and Big Star's Jody Stephens. Lagoon has been called "sublime" (Coachella Valley Weekly), "luxurious and literate" (Rock & Roll Truth), and "an emotional tour de force" (Glide). In 2025, Brodeur re-teamed with Falkner for The Escape Artist, a "paranoid guitar-pop" album, rife with themes of isolation and anxiety, with sounds spanning from claustrophobic folk to psychedelic-tinged indie. The AV Club called the album's "guitar-forward, Britpop-inspired" sound "as catchy as it is twitchy." Gina Romantini (The Wallflowers) and Zach Jones (Sting) make guest appearances. A native of upstate New York, Brodeur began his recording career with 2000’s Tiger Pop, and prior to Bird Streets released two more solo albums, plus EPs with The Suggestions and Maggie Mayday. He has toured with Superdrag, Juliana Hatfield, They Might Be Giants, and Fountains Of Wayne, and performed with NYC institution Loser's Lounge.
