A homegrown, underground art rock act.
Life in 2026 can be chaotic. Looking beyond political or economic concerns, our digital and online-based cultural sphere can be a grim mess. However, the rigid boundaries of genre have collapsed and new digi-lands have emerged. Cardiff’s Blue Amber are seasoned navigators of these wild new lands. The six-piece’s sound incorporates hip-hop and free jazz influences into an approach that eventually settles somewhere between art-rock and jazz-punk. There’s the twin drummer attack of Zach and Alex, but also frontman Drew Noel’s scathing, sardonic takedowns of late-capitalist madness and local scene competition. A common theme throughout Blue Amber’s oeuvre is the ‘Lynchian’ aesthetic; absurdity or surrealism, the mundane and macabre flicking between one another with unpredictable fervor. It’s a mood that life in the world right now can often feel like. The aesthetic is a key touchstone for the band members, not strictly in terms of musical mood, although there’s plenty of off-kilter delights in there. No, the true Lynchian nature of Blue Amber is their open-minded embrace of creativity, the sense that ideas are a tangible thing to be nurtured and that, if you pair the right ones together; singular, thrilling creative sparks will fly, no matter how weird things might get.
Blue Amber plays an eclectic blend of art-rock, jazz-punk, and alternative hip-hop rooted in the UK underground scene.
The group consists of Zach Breskal, Alex Burch, Jez Lee, Hayden Lewis, Drew Noel, and Cadi Thomas.
