An underground funk act.
“...like Cory Wong on Acid” Austin-based funk fusion collective Blue Tongue’s music is served with equal parts funk, psych and electrifying live performances. Known for their exceptional musical chops, air-tight rhythm section, infallibly tasteful horns, exceptionally funky guitars, and color synths, Blue Tongue always brings a masterful sonic experience complete with on stage acrobatics and the occasional video game soundtrack reference. With live shows this dynamic, it’s no surprise that opportunities abound in the form of festivals, national tours, an official performance at NAMM, and club shows opening for beloved acts like Ghost-Note, Giacomo Turra, and Ghost Funk Orchestra, as well as most recently an after show following Vulfpeck. The band’s sonic exploration is supported by an impressive lineup of endorsements, including ADV-Sound, Marco Bass Guitars, Tsakalis Audioworks, Anatomy of Sound, as well as a Chilean-inspired collaboration with the local salsa masters at Fantastic Fuego, with their custom blue salsa, “Blumitas.” Spunky and self-sufficient, the band has their own recording studio that allows them to keep the production in-house and independent. This kind of magnetic tenacity shines through not just in Blue Tongue’s music, but in their overall approach in navigating their steady ascension. As the indefatigable Pham sums up, "Through enough effects pedals, creatine, and sheer determination, anything is possible."
Blue Tongue plays an energetic blend of psych-funk, jazz fusion, and progressive rock characterized by intricate horn arrangements and a tight rhythm section.
