A nostalgic easy listening artist.
Charlene Oliver, better known as “Charlene” was one of the most recognisable voices of the 1980’s. Born Charlene D'Angelo she signed with Motown Records in 1973 doing demo’s for the likes of Michael Jackson and Diana Ross. She released two albums and a handful of singles including “Somewhere In My Life - Original” and “Freddie - Original” before she was dropped from the label in the late 70’s. Five years after its first release, her now mega hit “I've Never Been To Me ” topped the charts around the world in 1982, shooting her to fame over night! This would see her release three albums during 1982. Her next venture would prove more difficult, after recording a duet, ”Used To Be ” with Stevie Wonder it was not well received due to its controversial lyrics and reached only a Top 40 chart position. Her last album, Hit and Run Lover an album of original rock songs failed to chart due to no promotion at all. She would record six albums with Motown until her departure in 1985. In the late 1990’s “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” brought a new audience to her number 1 hit as-well as a new re birth for Charlene. She then released a dance version of “I’ve Never Been To Me” under Eye Witness feat. Charlene Oliver. Since then, she has worked on original material, collaborations and book writing. Her latest musical venture is a duet with Irish artist Rían entitled “Divide of Ten”, her first new recording in many years! Stream the new single “Oh, Cecilia ” now … x
