Christina Wheeler

Composer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist electronic musician, and multimedia artist
 Christina Wheeler’s musical forays explore a myriad of styles and forms. She blends an amalgam of improvised electronic music from an array of sources: processed vocals, vocal loops, hand-triggered sampler, theremin, QChord, autoharp, and electric mbira. A Los Angeles native and graduate of Harvard-Radcliffe Colleges and Manhattan School of Music, she has performed and recorded with numerous artists, including Ryuichi Sakamoto, Chaka Khan, John Cale, Laraaji, Roscoe Mitchell, Matana Roberts, Marc Ribot, Murcof, and A Guy Called Gerald. Wheeler’s work with David Byrne included international tours and appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman and PBS’s Sessions at West 54th Street. MTV’s AMP featured her music. She has performed at New York’s Lincoln Center and Berlin’s Philharmonie, and collaborated with choreographers Sally Silvers and Jodi Melnick. Recordings include work with Fred P, Benjamin Brunn, Shinedoe, Ripperton, Vernon Reid, DJ Logic, Mocky, and Jamie Lidell. Wheeler joined the Art Ensemble of Chicago for their 50th anniversary, appearing on We Are on the Edge. Her duo with Nicole Mitchell, Iridescent, opened the Angel City Jazz Festival. Soon, she will release two albums, Songs of S + D and Tres Es un Número Mágico: Kaleidoscopic Triptychs. Now, Wheeler is making new works with immersive, ambisonic sound design and writing for her latest instrument, the glass armonica.
