An underground contemporary jazz act.
Crabs & Feathers was born in 2019 from the artistic meeting of Claudio Niniano and Jonathan Norani, who first crossed paths while studying at the Civici Corsi di Jazz in Milan. Coming from different musical backgrounds — Claudio from the world of folk and songwriting, and Jonathan from funk and groove-oriented ensembles — the two quickly discovered a deep creative and personal chemistry. Their earliest performances took place in intimate Milanese clubs, where they developed a style marked by contrast: energetic, rhythmically driven passages give way to moments of spaciousness and introspection. Whether reinterpreting jazz standards or reshaping rock, folk, and pop tunes, their arrangements are always original, their improvisations fresh and intuitive. The constant interplay between guitar and saxophone is the beating heart of their sound. With the release of Rarefaction, they step fully into their own voice — a singular blend of influences, united by a strong melodic sensibility and a spirit of exploration.
Crabs & Feathers plays crossover jazz, blending elements of folk, funk, and traditional jazz standards into original guitar and saxophone arrangements featured on their album Rarefaction.
The duo is based in Milan, Italy, where they formed after meeting at the Civici Corsi di Jazz.
The group consists of guitarist Claudio Niniano and saxophonist Jonathan Norani.
