A polished, underground italian singer-songwriter artist.
BIOGRAPHY | DANILO REA www.daniloreamusic.it Danilo Rea was born in Vicenza, Italy, in August 1957. He discovered his passion for music at the very early age. Danilo took his first piano lesson before his sixth birthday, from where he started his extraordinary journey. “...la musica è la mia malattia e la mia medicina, il mio scopo e il mio compito, la mia ragione di essere al mondo, il mio modo di giocare con la vita...” “...music is my sickness and my medicine, my purpose and my commitment, the reason to be in this world, my way to play with my life...” Danilo completed his classical studies at the Santa Cecilia Music Conservatory in Rome, graduating in 1978. Despite this, he immediately realized that jazz was his true nature. He made his debut on the jazz scene with the Trio di Roma, alongside Roberto Gatto (drums) and Enzo Pietropaoli (double bass) in 1975. Danilo has worked both on stage and in the recording studio with great musicians such as Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Art Farmer, John Scofield, Joe Lovano, Nello Toscano, Mimmo Cafiero, Phil Woods, Curtis Fuller, and Kenny Wheeler. His eclecticism has also led him to perform with some of the most important Italian pop singers, including Domenico Modugno, Mina, Pino Daniele, Riccardo Cocciante, Gianni Morandi, Claudio Baglioni, Fiorella Mannoia, and many others, with whom he has developed long-standing collaborations.
Danilo Rea plays expressive contemporary jazz piano, blending rigorous classical conservatory training with sophisticated interpretations of Italian pop standards and American jazz repertoire.
