An underground art pop artist.
Sometimes dreamy, sometimes demanding, sometimes playful, sometimes stirring – deb. is a Basel-based art pop / jazz pop act led by singer and composer Debora Monfregola (CH/I). Alongside bandmates Catherine Tang (keys), Tommy Fuller (bass) and Max Liebenberg (drums) deb. tells personal stories about people, relationships, and strange moments of self-discovery. The upcoming second full-length album continues this evolution. Born from a five-week train journey across Europe in summer 2025, the songs revisit familiar themes - people, relationships, self-discovery - while capturing new experiences and reflections on where life stands in this moment. Blending the organic warmth of live instrumentation with thoughtful production, Debora’s lyrics balance self-irony with genuine longing. The production, again with Daniel Somaroo, weaves the quartet’s live energy with subtle electronic textures, creating a sound that feels both immediate and dreamlike. As a quartet, deb. has gained flexibility and grown even closer musically, fully embracing a more playful, lyrical direction. With acoustic and electronic sounds moving between sophisticated harmonic structures, bold rhythmic experimentation, and pop accessibility, the new album is music that doesn’t overthink itself. The songs are concrete, literal, self-describing - each one a moment glimpsed through a train window. Coming November 2026.
