DISCOPHONIC ORCHESTRA

Discophonic Orchestra, founded in 2014, is a dynamic live music experience that revitalizes the glory days of disco. Based in the Netherlands, the orchestra was created by jazz trombonist and arranger Lex van Wel, driven by a deep passion for the orchestral and rhythmic richness of 1970s disco. What sets Discophonic Orchestra apart is that we arrange and adapt all the music ourselves, similar to how the Analogues meticulously recreated the work of The Beatles. However, we take it a step further by performing disco music live, in a way the original artists never did. With live strings and brass, we offer the best of both worlds: a live version of the iconic hits, yet arranged as if it had been recorded that way back in the day. This approach brings the music, now nearly 50 years old, to life in a fresh and vibrant way that resonates with modern audiences. Our focus is on the legendary music of the 1970s, when artists like the Bee Gees, Shirley Bassey, Donna Summer, The Jacksons, and many others recorded their biggest hits with grand orchestras. We recreate these lush, orchestral arrangements live, which creates an enormous energy on stage. This is made possible by the outstanding musicians who form Discophonic Orchestra and the talented vocalists who have been performing at the highest level in the European music scene for decades.
