Sjoerd van Eijck
OAK’s second album is a result of a search for a new sound and contains a mix of old and new influences. Inspired by music by Ennio Morricone from the film “The Hateful Eight”, Sjoerd delved into the world of the French composer Olivier Messiaen. By immersing himself in new composition techniques, he found the sounds that helped him shape his compositions in a different way. This album is a reflection on the past, present and future. It emphasizes the power of hard work, following your intuition, and embracing positivity to achieve goals and make dreams come true. But there is also room for the downside of life, in which negative feelings and uncertainty play a role. With Eight, Sjoerd shows the ability to create sounds that evoke emotions and tell stories. Trumpet player Koen Smits, bass player Nathan Wouters and percussionist Willem Romers add richness and steering rhythms to his distinct signature. The album is a translation of his search for balance and harmony in life and the music takes you on this journey. Recorded in Osnabrück, Eight is a refined follow-up to the first album.
