A polished, underground latin folklore artist.
Esteban Alvarez is a pop instrumental pianist from Costa Rica. He is best known for his fusion of several music styles where the piano is the "leading voice". When growing up, Alvarez's musical interests lay with instrumentals of the Pop, Jazz and World Music genres. At the age of 16 he decided to focus on the piano as a soloist rather than keyboards and synthesizers. He entered college in San Jose as a Physics major, while pursuing a music career simultaneously. In 2002 Esteban was given a full scholarship to study classical piano performance at Baylor University, where he earned his bachelors degree. After graduation he was then awarded another full scholarship at the renown Jazz program at UNT (University of North Texas), where he earned a master's degree in Jazz Studies. Alvarez doesn't consider himself a classical nor a jazz pianist. He rather calls himself a "pop-instrumental pianist", although the influences of these two genres are evident in his music style. In 2016 Esteban became a Steinway Artist, and have been actively performing around the world as a soloist and with other bands. Esteban has recorded with Los Kjarkas, Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan, Luis Enrique Mejia Godoy, John Patitucci, Ignacio Berroa, Glorius4, Tamela Hedstrom, Mauricio Callejas, Los Panchos, among others. Esteban lives and works in Austin, Texas. He is currently the Executive Director of Chorus Austin, and he is the president of EACmusic and EACenterprises. www.eacmusic.com
