Fernweh is an electronic music and sound design trio formed in 2015 in La Spezia. The line-up consists of Emiliano Bagnato (guitars and synthesisers), Lorenzo Cosci (drums and electronics) and Daniel Leix Palumbo (synthesisers and keyboards). Fernweh began as a live improvisation group, hence the name Fernweh, which can be translated from German as 'feeling homesick for a place you've never been'. This concept is transposed into music through improvisation: the desire to escape from a shared and established point to create an extemporaneous journey, where each musician's input represents a new path and a new direction to follow. Since then, things have changed and today Fernweh is a group that pursues two parallel paths: one dedicated to sound design and the composition of music for installations and multimedia projects; another 'more classical' as a band. Fernweh's sounds for audiovisual art and music have been presented and live performed at various clubs and video art and film festivals in Italy and abroad. Fernweh's sound is an ever-changing hybrid where different musical ideas and artistic backgrounds converge, following with interest the developments of the contemporary electronic scene, but also integrating elements of genres such as kraut rock, glitch, post-rock, electroacoustics and noise.
