Francisco Costa Reis is a Portuguese jazz guitarist. He is co-founder and one of the musical directors of the Reunion Big Jazz Band, a seminal big band with which he played a weekly gig, over several years, at the now defunct Ondajazz club in Lisbon. Reunion Big Jazz Band served as the launching pad for dozens of young musicians who went on to become important names of the Portuguese Jazz scene. Francisco Costa Reis studied with John Parricelli, Fredo Mergner, Nuno Ferreira and Vasco Agostinho, who had a decisive influence in his playing and strongly encouraged him to perform regularly in live settings. He is a versatile player, who enjoys playing in different styles both on electric and acoustic instruments. Francisco Costa Reis released in February 2023 “Just Askin’” his debut record as a leader featuring a group of seven top Jazz musicians of Portugal performing 9 of his original compositions.
