An underground, nostalgic fado artist.
Gabriel Gomes presents himself for the first time under his own name with Uma História Assim (A Story Like This), an instrumental album born from the deep relationship he has maintained for decades with the accordion. Recorded entirely solo — except for the title track, featuring Rodrigo Leão on piano — the album unfolds as a musical narrative voiced through the instrument and the artist himself. In the studio, the musician’s breathing merges with that of the accordion, fusing performer and instrument into a single sonic identity. Produced by Gabriel Gomes with Rodrigo Leão and João Eleutério, the album is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2026. With a career starting in the late 1980s, Gabriel Gomes was a member of Sétima Legião and a founding member of Madredeus, contributing to some of the most defining albums of both projects. Alongside this, he explored electronic music with Projecto Om and Tjak, and co-founded Os Poetas with Rodrigo Leão. Since then, he has remained active on stage and in the studio, collaborating with artists such as Tim and Jorge Palma, while never straying from the accordion — his instrument of choice. In 2015, he co-founded Fandango, combining accordion, Portuguese guitar and electronics. Now, in 2026, he finally fulfills a long-standing promise to release music under his own name. Uma História Assim celebrates that journey: an intimate return to the accordion and the place where it all began.
