Gaspar Claus is a French cellist and composer who turns his instrument into a tool for exploration, escape and dialogue. The son of flamenco guitarist Pedro Soler, he grew up between genres and generations, training in classical cello before breaking away from convention to forge a deeply personal sound. His debut solo album, Tancade (InFiné, 2021), established a singular voice blending immersive soundscapes, avant-garde experimentation and raw emotion. His collaborators include Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner, Rone, Casper Clausen, Keiji Haino and Matt Elliott. He has composed scores for films and documentaries including Makala, Le Fil, Un Monde Violent and The Recipe, with his work taking him to the Cannes Film Festival on several occasions. He also founded Les Disques du Festival Permanent, a label dedicated to unruly music and collective invention. Five years after Tancade, Claus returns with CELLS, conceived in a custom-built studio alongside producer Basile3. Shaped by friction and breath, the album moves through intimate memory, desire and vital energy. The cello and its digital transformations intertwine, creating a shifting landscape where organic fervor meets electronic metamorphosis. A new live creation will accompany the album on tour.
