Boone Carter blends a sound that ventures into the realm of sleazy alt-country from the '60s & '70s but retains a backbone of indie rock with a mean streak of freak folk. Guitars dipped in reverb, ethereal three-part harmonies, and distorted pedal steel create a western vista for Carter to croon, creep, and croak. They pull from contemporaries like Timber Timbre, Songs: Ohia , and Grizzly Bear , as much as Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, and Chris Isaak , to create a sound that is beat poetic yet breathes with the energy of the new—straddling the fabled line of a rowdy cowpunk band and a disgraced Las Vegas performer's matinee performance to no one. Gilded Lows is a musical project fronted by songwriter Spencer "Boone" Carter. Though native to Texas, it formed across LA and New York. After heading home like many do from LA, Carter met with guitarist and songwriter Buckley Willis on the front stage at Hole in the Wall. Gilded Lows reformed under the same name, quickly adding a variety of local artists, but now its roster stands at Carter, Willis, Micheal Germany, and Scott Boone, with Jack Owens on the drums.
