An underground indie folk artist.
Giulia Millanta is an Italian-American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and storyteller whose eclectic sound blends indie folk, jazz, and Americana. Described as “a deeply evocative singer with a dash of Piaf, a sprinkle of Lady Day, a pinch of Norah Jones, and a teaspoon of Madeleine Peyroux” (Mike Greenblatt), Giulia brings warmth, wit, and wanderlust to every song. A multi-instrumentalist, she plays guitar, upright bass, and ukulele, and sings in four languages — English, Italian, Spanish, and French. To date, she has released nine solo albums and collaborated with music luminaries such as Charlie Sexton (Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello), Marc Ribot (Tom Waits), Hunt Sales (David Bowie), Gabriel Rhodes (Willie Nelson), Glenn Fukunaga, Dony Wynn (Robert Palmer), Joel Guzman (Paul Simon), and David Pulkingham (Patty Griffin, Robert Plant). Giulia has toured extensively across the US, the UK, and Europe, sharing stages with 10,000 Maniacs, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Mary Gauthier, and Spooner Oldham "(Giulia Millanta) continually pulls you out there with her...with melodies, singing, stories, imagery. No matter what language her lyrics may be in...she’s always understandable because her music is, like any fine art, universally recognizable." — Dave Marsh, SiriusXM Radio “Worldly, sometimes otherworldly sound that makes Millanta unique among Austin singer-songwriters.” — Peter Blackstock, Austin 360
