Grace Leckey

Queens-based multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and audio engineer Grace Leckey grew up singing hymns and Americana in a Catholic folk choir. Leckey’s upcoming Americana Roots album Hell Gate explores her matrilineal heritage in Astoria, Queens and her roots in the Irish Catholic tradition through the lens of an LGBTQ+ artist. Her debut album Best Supporting Actress explores encounters with Divinity through rejecting traditional scripts and growing up to live and love authentically. Best Supporting Actress covers a wide range of coming-of-age reflections, from the bittersweet shifting of childhood relationships recounted in “Like I Have Lived A Thousand Lives,” to the joy of newfound independence described in “Rings,” to the confusing, dark heartbreak of losing friends and collaborators to mental illness, as told in “Sweet Anna,” which is dedicated to Anna Doyle, Rameet Singh, all young creatives who lost their lives to mental illness, and the people who love them. Leckey is one half of the pop-rock band GraceKellie whose roots are in Bloomington, Indiana. She cites Brandi Carlile, Sarah Jarosz, Patty Griffin, Indigo Girls, Joni Mitchell, Pete Seeger, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe as influences.
