Tick-tock-tick-tock. Avant-garde rock, veiled in order and chaos. A psychosis of sound that would make your grandad collapse. Grandad doesn’t just push boundaries, but recklessly tears right through them. On the 10th of April, the band will release their second EP 'Canine'. It is their "shared brainchild which we have nursed into a beautiful monstrosity". Grandad consists of Silver Lovely, Julian Noomen, Jop Fränzel, and Flor Peters. The band started in 2019 under various other names with Julian Noomen, Silver Lovely, and Job Jansen. In late 2023, Jop Fränzel replaced Job Jansen as guitarist, and in 2024 they added saxophonist Flor Peters to further refine their evolving sound. Since then, they’ve quickly grown within the alternative music scene, performing across the Netherlands. In 2025, they won first prize at Roos van Nijmegen by blowing the roof off a sold-out Doornroosje in Nijmegen. They’ve also played at festivals such as Code Oranje, Valkhof Festival, and Kabaal am Gemaal. Their debut EP 'Porcelain' dropped in June 2025 and was shortly afterward released on vinyl in collaboration with record label Waaghals. This EP marked a milestone in Grandad’s sound, where the saxophone truly comes into its own, intertwining with the rest of the instrumentation in an organized chaos of sound. For fans of Maruja, Viagra Boys, and Gilla Band.
