Hænesy began in 2017 as the one-man project of Henrik Sándor, gradually evolving into a collaborative effort with drummer Tamás Galántay. Their first album together, Garabontzia (2021), marked the project’s first release featuring live drums. What started as a two-person studio project has since grown into a full live lineup, with Márton Pap and Márton Bencze joining on vocals and guitars respectively. The expanded lineup brings a different physicality to Hænesy’s music, allowing the material to exist beyond the studio and take on a new form on stage. Rooted in atmospheric black metal, Hænesy’s music moves between bleak, immersive passages and moments of heightened intensity, with melody, texture and dynamics playing an equally important role. The band’s sound is less concerned with genre boundaries than with creating a distinct atmosphere and sense of place. In 2026, Hænesy returns with ‘Esentia’, their most expansive work to date, released on September 25 via Fractions of Life Records.
