Hessel Moeselaar layers the viola with modular synths into a melancholic and colorful soundscape. Exploring the endless possibilities of blending his acoustic instrument with electronic elements, like artists like Ben Lukas Boysen. His latest release Drifting Echoes builds on the inevitable 'what if' question that now and again echoes in our minds. Life is full of choices—some small, others life-changing. We choose what feels right, but later, those moments echo back and we wonder, what if? What if we’d chosen differently? It’s human to imagine the life we didn’t live, shaped by other decisions. But we’ll never truly know. We can’t walk both paths. All we have is the road we took and who we’ve become because of it—the what if lingers. His track Drifting Echoes ends in resigned acceptance. Hessel, an Amsterdam Conservatory of Music graduate, is a founding member of the genre bending 3VIOLAS. A group consisting of three viola players influenced by minimal, electronic, classical and film music. 3VIOLAS made its debut at Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) in 2022 and at Down The Rabbit Hole Festival. He is also part of the highly acclaimed Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra. Drifting Echoes is his latest acoustic electronic solo project.
