High Heavens was founded in 2018 by vocalist John Matthew Walker (ex-Ignorance Park) and guitarist Ernest Salaz (formerly of Glorium and I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness ) later joined by former Ignorance Park alumni Ehren Lorfing (drums) and Bobby Chapa (keyboards, guitar). The recent addition of bassist Chepo Peña (Sincola, Gomez from Austin, David Garza, Spoon and most recently Jo Alice) brings a new energy to the band as they work on their next release, scheduled for 2027. High Heavens’ full-length LP Springtime Don't Call (2020), and EPs Vermouth on Ice (2019), Life is a Loan Shark / Hundred Bullets (2022), and The Outside EP (2024) have garnered enthusiastic reviews and a committed following. High Heavens’ only mission statement is to follow each song home. Having grown up in the eclectic Austin underground of the ’80s and ’90s, genre is a vapor to them. At times, high-energy and explosive; at others, cinematic, sparse, and austere. Influenced by everything from ’60s psychedelia to British post-punk, experimental jazz to reggae.
