An underground vocal jazz act.
HLASkontraBAS octet is a unique ensemble composed of leading Czech musicians, composed of four voices and four double basses. The concept is based on the HLASkontraBAS duo project, but the duo has grown and the songs are newly arranged so as to take full advantage of the live performance of the eight-member ensemble. A unique cast bringing a powerful and unusual musical experience. After several years of performing together, the musicians approached a selection of international authors, inviting them to compose new material for the octet’s first album. The multilateral collaboration has yielded the acclaimed “Nordic” project Kaleidoscapes which features compositions by musicians from Norway, Iceland, Israel and Czechia. The album received a nomination for Czech Music Academy Award for the best jazz album in year 2024.
